Canyon Rim Elementary School Activities
Fun Runs
Fun Runs provide students the opportunity to develop a positive attitude toward their own fitness. They are non-competitive and students can come out and jog or walk with other children, parents and staff members as they listen to music and enjoy the physical activity. The purpose of our Fun Runs is to develop healthy, lifelong habits in students.
Battle of the Books
Battle of the Books is a voluntary competition for students who enjoy reading. Several books are selected by the South East Regional Library and are used to develop questions to test readers on their comprehension of each of the selected books.
Students in intermediate grades compete in teams of three as they demonstrate their knowledge through three "battles" based on three different sets of books. These students are responsible for reading the selected books, having group discussions about the books and selecting a spokesperson for the group. The winning team from each school moves on to represent their school at the district Battle of the Books competition.
Battle of the Books is an inclusive activity that promotes a lifelong love of reading.
Intramural Sports
The intramural program is for 5th and 6th grade students and occurs during the students’ lunch recess. Throughout the year we play a variety of sports such as soccer, 4-downs flag football, hockey, basketball and softball. We emphasize playing fair and showing good sportsmanship at all times, while learning and practicing the proper rules of each game.
Extended Day Programming
Free reading and math extended day support is available and based on student need and teacher recommendation. Sessions are offered Monday through Thursday, with two sessions (one fall, one spring) throughout the school year. Parent permission is required.
