GPS LogoTransportation Guidelines & School Bus Rules

Transportation provided by the district is a privilege. Inappropriate conduct at bus stops, on District vehicles, or in the process of boarding or exiting from a vehicle may result in student disciplinary action including, but not limited to, denial of transportation privileges.

Listed below are some general rules to follow:
  1. All student conduct policies apply at bus stops.
  2. Obey the driver's instructions.
  3. Keep the aisles clear.
  4. Remain seated until the scheduled stop.
  5. Keep all body parts inside the vehicle.
  6. Do not yell or use vulgar or abusive language.
  7. Be respectful to the driver and others.
  8. Do not throw anything inside the vehicle or from the vehicle.
  9. No food or drink unless sanctioned by the driver.
  10. Tobacco use not allowed.
  11. Provide proper identification when asked to do so.
Please refer to the student handbook for more information on transportation rules and regulations, and consequences for failure to comply with these rules. All students will receive the Awareness Contract, which includes policy regarding student conduct on district vehicles. Riding the bus is a privilege, not a right. Suspension of bus riding privileges does not relieve parents of the responsibility of sending a child to school.

With your assistance and cooperation, together we can make every effort to ensure the safety of your children while they ride the bus and as they walk to and from the bus stop.

GPS Policies Relating to School Bus Conduct

Bus Stop Conduct
Conduct while waiting for the bus:
  1. Be at your bus stop approximately five minutes before the bus is scheduled to arrive.
  2. Stay at a safe distance from the curb on the sidewalk area. Do not wander into carports or onto lawns. Do not sit on fences.
  3. Do not play games in the street.
  4. When the bus approaches, get in line. Line up parallel to the street away from the curb.
  5. Stand clear of the bus until it has come to a complete stop. Do not push or shove while waiting. Let smaller children board first.
  6. If you miss the bus, go straight home. Remember, your bus driver has a schedule to keep and if you are not at the bus stop, he cannot wait for you.
  7. Parents should instruct their children on what to do if the bus is unable to pick them up, i.e.,
  • Where to go and wait (back home or to a friend’s house).
  • Whom to telephone (parents, school, or a friend).
Conduct while boarding the bus:
  1. Always use the handrail
  2. Go up the steps one at a time.
