The district Transportation Department is committed to providing safe and efficient transportation for all students, staff and employees.
The Transportation Department
supports all the district transportation needs ranging from busing to
and from school, special needs busing and activity trips. The department
has two full vehicle maintenance facilities and maintains all the
district vehicles consisting of approximately 256 school buses and 207
support vehicles. The main complex is located at 140 S. Gilbert Rd. in
Gilbert at the District Administrative Center adjacent to Mesquite Jr.
High, fondly called the “Gilbert Bus Barn”. This facility houses the
majority of our buses, approximately 155. The second site is located at
7025 E. Guadalupe Rd. in Mesa, which is located behind Highland Jr.
High. This site is known as “Power Base” and it houses approximately 95
buses.
Safety is our number one goal and we take pride in our
record, which is a great reflection on our 170 drivers and our training
staff. Our busses travel over 10,000 miles daily and approximately
2,292,000 miles a year. Our drivers receive periodic training; annually,
monthly and exceed Arizona minimum standards. A Gilbert bus driver must
be a minimum of 21 years of age, possess a Commercial Driver License,
State Bus Driver Certificate, meet a physical tolerance profile, and
undergo random and annual drug testing. We are always looking for good
bus drivers and as stated previously we have a great training program.
With
the growth the district has been experiencing we are always looking for
new and inventive ways to improve our service. We have implemented a
computer routing system, which will help the efficiency of routes and
provide more detailed information to parents and school staff. Currently
route information can be obtained from any school location.

- Bus stop information is available online after July 30th.
Transportation - Start of School Tips
- Attend Open House at your student’s school for additional route information.
- Take your child to the bus stop prior to the start of school.
- To avoid confusion when riding home on the bus, have your student ride the morning bus.
- Make sure your child knows his/her name and address, if not, write this information inside their backpack.
How are bus stops determined?
Stops
are assigned by general location of students and must meet state
regulations for safety. Typical stop locations are within subdivisions
near parks, common-walls and retention areas. Stops must be at least 50
feet from a signed intersection. Note: Stops will not be changed during
the first 4 weeks of school.
