The Maintenance and Operations Department is committed to keeping the district facilities and grounds safe, clean, and functional for
students, staff, and visitors.
Our
maintenance staff, comprised of electricians, heating and air
conditioning technicians, carpenters, locksmiths, plumbers, and special
systems technicians, repair and maintain over 4.8 million square feet of
school space in 298 buildings including over 13,000 tons of heating
ventilation, and cooling equipment. The maintenance department also
oversees remodeling projects and ensures they are completed on time and
within budget.
Our grounds staff maintains over 800
acres of school grounds. Grounds crews also maintain playground
equipment and make sure it is inspected for safety.
|
The maintenance and grounds departments are on call 24
hours a day, seven days a week for emergency repairs that can arise from
storms, vandalism and other sources.
As
the facilities become more sophisticated, our department strives to
keep our maintenance workers trained to keep up with changes in
technology. In addition, we test new products in the industry to
determine those that can better meet the needs of the District. We have
implemented the Arizona School Facilities Board preventive maintenance
program, designed to better maintain and prolong the life of our
facilities.
AHERA (Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act) Management Plan
An AHERA Management Plan is required by Federal law and is
intended to prevent exposure to asbestos during general operation and
maintenance activities. It describes the location and condition of
asbestos-containing building materials and documents their removal and
repairs. Schools must update their AHERA Management Plans with
information collected from their periodic surveillance every 6 months,
re-inspection of building for asbestos-containing materials every 3
years, and response actions taken within the school. A copy of the AHERA
Management Plan is located at each school and in the Maintenance and
Operations office. For questions or additional information, please
contact the Environmental Supervisor at 480-373-0465.
