About CTE

Mission: The mission of Vocational Career and Technical Education in the Gilbert Public Schools is to prepare each student who elects to benefit from quality vocational education programs to:
  • be effective and responsible;
  • develop premier leadership qualities, high level technical skills, critical thinking abilities and employable work habits;
  • choose a career field, formulate goals, work to accomplish their goals, practice positive work ethics, and; grow into a unique, productive citizen.
Four elements make these outstanding vocational career and technical education programs unique among high school course offerings:
  • Hands-on learning in laboratory based experiential instruction. This includes the theory put into practice, reinforced and made to come alive for any students.
  • Work based learning, relating the technical instruction and practice to what happens in the real world of work. This could be in a simulated lab experience, a school based enterprise or in a paid or unpaid, real work experience.
  • Personal leadership development - DECA, the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Family, Community and Career Leaders of America (FCCLA), Future Educators Association (FEA), FFA, and SkillsUSA-VICA each offer individuals the opportunity to connect with professionals in employment areas related to the student interests, and develop personal leadership qualities to assist initial and advancing employment and education.
  • Reinforcement of academic skills related to the technical area of study. These real life applications reinforce the requisite academic skills as they are applied to the real life settings - the academic theories come to life and are truly practiced and integrated through the practical application and critical thinking required to solve real problems.
