World-Class Graduates
 
In 2011 Gilbert Public Schools’ graduating class received over $36 million in scholarships and boasts National Merit Scholars, a U.S. Military Academy (West Point) cadet, and two Air Force Academy appointments among their many distinctions.

Joshua Niska
Gilbert High graduate Joshua Niska attends Harvard Medical School. The ASU Barrett Honors College biochemistry major was named one of the nation’s top 20 students in 2010 by USA Today for his outstanding achievements, including cancer research at the Translational Genomics Research Institute. Interesting fact: accompanying a surgeon and shaman, he traveled through the Ecuadoran Amazon region studying the relationship between the traditions of the indigenous people and modern medicine.

Aaron Qayumi 
For 2005 Mesquite High graduate Aaron Qayumi living and working in Juba, South Sudan, is a long way from home. With his diploma from Stanford University in hand, he interned in Washington, D.C., for a U.S. congressman before joining a company that specializes in economic development projects. Currently, he lives and works in The Republic of South Sudan as part of the Deloitte Emerging Markets team helping to create the infrastructures necessary for a successful government.
